Quality content is is nothing but providing a good user experience! Major search engines like- Google, Bing, Yahoo prefers creating contents in favor of users, rather than search engines in order to improve search ranking.

But practically, when you're going to create a quality content that can rank better in search results, you really need to consider too many small things which search engines really care about.

Now, if we really consider the Bing's formula of quality test, then everyone who has a little knowledge about content marketing will pass the "Utility" test quite easily. But, most of the content marketer and blogger will score low in Authority and Presentation test.

Therefor we need to work more on content authority and its presentation to improve the overall quality .

Here are the things which matters to the search algorithms while calculating the quality of contents;
  1. Social Performance.
  2. Relevancy Between Site and Content Topic.
  3. Author Identity.
  4. Domain Age.
  5. Hyperlink Quality and Relevancy.
  6. Meaningful Supporting Multimedia.
  7. Balance Between Content and Advertisements.
  8. Content Structure.
  9. Site Speed.
  10. Site Designing.
The first five are to Authority check and the last five are to Presentation check.

      Let's discuss deeply-

      1. Social Performance: Today, search engines are getting smarter and wants only the user friendly contents. So, search algorithms are monitoring social performance of each contents (Number of shares, +1's, Tweets, etc.) to determine the usefulness.

      2. Relevancy Between Site and Content Topic: Contents must be relevant to the site topic. For example- A food related content should not be published in a travel blog, it must be on a food related blog. Because, search engines also calculates the trust factor of each contents, comparing between website and content topic. If somebody place a camera review on a food related blog, then for obvious reasons, user will not trust the content.

      3. Author Identity:  It's also a trust factor! Search engines also determine that, a content written by an original author or not! On some website or blog we can find that author name is- "Admin". Well, the Admin can't be a legal human author of a valuable content. It must be a real name. So, it confuses both a human user and search algorithms.

On the other hand, search algorithms also giving priority to the contents written by reputed authors like +Matt Cutts , who has a huge follower and a strong online reputation.

      4. Domain Age: It's very easy to understand that a 5 years old site is more trusted, than a 5 month old domain.

      5. Hyperlink Quality and Relevancy: The search engine also calculates the hyperlinks (Supporting out sources) quality and relevancy to measure content quality. That means, if you link Wikipedia in your content anchor text instead of a normal website then, your content will have a higher authority to the search engines.

      6. Meaningful Supporting Media: All the image videos in your content must me relevant and meaningful. Many people are using fascinating images to attract visitors from social media. But, it will kill your content quality to the search engines.

      7. Balance Between Content and Advertisements: Did you know that your site advertisements will kill your content quality. As per Bing content quality guideline- a content must be easy to read and should not interact with site advertisements (that users can easily separate the ads from your site contents). If  you're not making a balance between ads and contents, then your content quality will go low.

Pop-up ads, keyword based text-link-ads (like-Infolinks ads) which might distract users from the content are not good.

      8. Content Structure: Read- The Ideal Content Structure for Today's Content Marketing

      9. Site speed and Designing: As it's all about the user experience, so a slow loading and bad designing site will cause a bad effect on your contents. People will not read your content if your site is loading slow. They simply ignore your site and will go another place.

Your site should be clean and easy to navigate. Don't use heavy scripts that might make your site slow.
