How To Find Long Tail Keywords Using Google Keyword Planner

Choosing most relevant keyword is the primary requirement of a perfectly search engine optimized web content. But, it’s really tough to get a good ranking in search engine result page (SERPs) for the short tail keywords in today’s competitive online marketplace. So, the long tail keywords are the only hope for low authority websites and blogs.

Today, there are many paid long tail keyword research tools are available where you can easily get relevant keyword ideas along with deeper research data such as estimated traffic from different search engines. But, those are really costly (you might need to pay $30 to $100 monthly) for the new search engine marketers and bloggers. So, here the Google Keyword Planner is the best option for those who don’t have much money to invest to get long tail keyword ideas.

Except cost effectiveness, there are many other advantages of using the Google Keyword Planner such as- accurate Google search trends and estimated traffic data for each keyword. We shouldn’t forget that Google is the most used search engines and only the Google know its users' behavior better than any other third party such as paid keyword research companies.

The Google Keyword Planner is now only available to the Google AdWords account holders. If you don’t have an AdWords account, then don’t worry, it’s free and you can set up an AdWords account with your existing Gmail. It will take only a few moments-

Step.1: Login into your AdWords account and navigate to the Keyword Planner under the “Tools” section. Now, choose the first option “search for new keywords using a phrase, website or category”.

Step.2: Put your topic keyword in the first line and click “Get ideas” tab. Now, by default Keyword Planner will show the search trends and some “Ad group ideas” related to your topic keyword. Just navigate to the “Keyword ideas” to see the related keywords and their monthly search analytics data.

Step.3: To get the most effective long tail keywords related to your search topic, you need to use custom search options from your left screen. Here you can see the “keyword options” from where you need to turn on “Only show ideas closely related to my search terms” option to get the long tail keywords.  See the picture for details.

Now you can see only the closely related keywords to your topic along with long tail keywords.

How to choose the perfect keywords: Choosing the most perfect keywords for your web contents is the toughest part of keyword researching. People normally choose less competitive keywords with higher search volumes. But, it’s not the perfect way. According to the Google- you only need to choose the keywords which are most relevant to your topic. Higher search volume and lower competition keywords will not necessarily give you a better result.
